Banyan Tree Tailoring Program

The Banyan Tree Tailoring Program is a micro- enterprise training program for marginalized rural and urban girls ages 15-35 years.

During the program, micro-enterprise (DWACRA and DWACUA) groups are formed which provides income generation and micro-enterprise training for their own business start-ups. Each group receives a government loan upon completion of the program and each member is accountable to the group to repay the loan. This program has impacted many lives helping them to help themselves by giving them the skills needed to earn an income for their family. Monthly sales of their handicrafts teach them marketing skills and the income generated from sales goes to support the program.

Those graduates who have started their own business volunteer to work alongside students providing mentorship and encouragement which helps to ensure a higher success rate.

With the help of the RCA and a local business the school now has 12 sewing machines and 1 embroidery machine for a total of 13 machines. The training course syllabus includes mastery in stitching, knitting, sewing, machine embroidery and hand embroidery, making handicrafts, cutting, soft toy making and more.

Recent donations provided 11 more sewing machines for the Banyan Tree Tailoring Program and 50 sewing machines for Vellore Diocese tailoring graduates.
